Hi everyone! My name is Anne and I will be graduating soon~ so excited 😊 I heard about MSCE from family friends; although I am not considering a medical career, I love Jesus, cross-cultural experiences, and getting to know people, so I’m delighted to be on the trip this summer. I also enjoy baking, cooking (and eating), exploring a city, and making music with other people. Looking forward to meeting all of you and creating new memories with you!
What is on your bucket list? Get purple highlights without bleaching my hair. Swim with a dolphin. Visit Israel.
Beau Hsia (夏恩寶 but everyone I know calls me 阿寶)
Santa Clara University ’21 | Computer Science and Engineering
Hometown: Mountain View, CA
Hello, I’m Beau (“Bo”), and for now, I’m a programmer who wants to be a surgeon in the future. But God only knows what’s in store, so learning and improving at many things right now is fresh, exciting, and necessary. Some of my free-time activities include cycling, thinking, and connecting (with God and people)! It’ll be a very exciting week. See you in Taiwan!
What is on your bucket list? I kinda have a bucket list (things I eventually want to do), but I don’t know if it’s completely realistic! For example, I want to eventually run a sub-5 minute mile (1600m), become fluent in a new language, memorize Romans 8, and/or invent functional nano-robots that could do medical procedures inside the body! Hmm…we’ll see if they’re possible….
Camille Chen (陳潔瑩)
University of California, Berkeley ’19 | Microbiology
Hometown: Fremont, California
Hi everyone! My name is Camille and I feel so grateful I can come a second time to MSCE. MSCE two summers ago was truly a special highlight of my college life—I was so blessed by the warm friendships and unforgettable memories, and dreamed of coming back to Taiwan again ever since. I recently finished my undergraduate degree and am currently taking some gap time and applying to clinical laboratory science post-bac programs. My life is usually not too interesting :D but when I wasn’t studying infectious diseases in college, I especially enjoyed art, being in nature, cooking and baking (also watching a lot of cooking and baking online, oops) and just spending time with church, friends, and family–you might meet some of them here 😊. I’m excited to meet you and for the week ahead with you all!
What is on your bucket list? I hope I can visit Hong Kong one day! My beloved college roommate of all 4 years was an international student and convinced me to want to visit one day. Some other items are to learn to speak acceptable Mandarin and to train a guide dog.
Charlotte Chan (陳詩諾)
UCLA 22′ | Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology
Hometown: Alameda, CA
Hi! I look forward to meeting you all! My name is Charlotte and I’ve just completed my first year of college at UCLA. In the future, I hope to pursue a career in healthcare and or teaching. In my free time, I enjoy watching Korean dramas, eating ramen, and playing with my dogs (or looking at pictures of them when I’m not home). I can’t wait to try all of the beef noodles and boba in Taiwan. I’m so, so excited to be a part of MSCE this year to meet new friends, get a little out of my comfort zone, and see how God will work in each of our lives!
What is on your bucket list? I guess one of those things was to travel abroad on my own, but this one will be crossed off soon! Another thing on my bucket list is to run a marathon one day. Let’s just say that I’m very far from crossing this one off!
Vanderbilt University ’17 | Computer Engineering
Hometown: Chicago, Illinois
Hello world! My name is Elton and I graduated from Vanderbilt University. My favorite class in university was public speaking because it really made me leave my comfort zone. Basketball was my first love and Jeremy Lin is my favorite athlete.
I love being the hype man and rooting for people! Whether it’s through mentoring high school students and being their biggest fan, or cheering on my Golden State Warriors, I will bring the fire. In my free time I speak Spanish, build websites and apps, and laugh.
What is on your bucket list? Hang out with Jeremy Lin.
Esther (Yuki) Chan
University of California, Los Angeles ’22 | Psychobiology
Hometown: Davis, CA
Hello All! My name is Esther Chan and will be a sophomore at UCLA in the fall. I’m currently study Psychobiology and hope to pursue a career in Optometry in the future! I was born and raised in Davis, CA (with the cows haha) and I enjoy spending time making arts and crafts, playing badminton, and eating delicious food! I’m so excited to visit Taiwan again after 15 years, and hopefully get a glimpse of what college was like for my mom when she attended MacKay Medical College for Nursing. I hope to be able to make new memories, try new foods, and most importantly, grow in my faith and work mightily to advance His kingdom.
What is on your bucket list? I would like to travel to many different countries to try their most famous foods, get hugged by a koala, run around in one of those giant hamster balls and try the $150 Japanese melon hehe.
Hannah Chen (陳潔霖)
University of California, Berkeley ’17 | Civil Engineering, M.S.
Stanford University ’16 | Civil Engineering, B.S.
Hometown: Fremont, CA
Hi there, my name is Hannah and I’m excited to be in Taiwan again! I’m so looking forward to meeting everyone and making new friendships at MSCE. I enjoy getting to know new people, learning new languages, exploring different cultures, and listening to great music. From 8am to 5pm on most days, I do some “engineering stuff” to provide people with clean water to drink and use. At all other hours, you can find me with high school students at church (keeps me young!), working out, or cooking (and let’s be honest…eating also) in the kitchen. You’ll also hear me calling Margaret and James “Mommy” and “Daddy”, because they are! Also, look closely at everyone’s nose, and you’ll see that I may or may not be related to another person on the team. Most of all, I am eternally grateful to be a child of God, who through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ saved me from my sin! John 17:3 – And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
What is on your bucket list? 1) Travel to at least one country on all continents. 2) Run a marathon. 3) Learn how to cook Taiwanese lo-ba (stewed pork belly). 4) Clean my desk at home.
Joyce En-Hua Wang
Duke University ’19 | Neuroscience
Hometown: Taipei, Taiwan
Hello! For those of you who knew me from last year’s MSCE, I am super excited to return as a TA this year! I grew up in Taipei, Taiwan and just graduated this May from Duke University with a major in Neuroscience and minor in Chemistry. Before going to medical school, I will start work in August as a healthcare consulting analyst in Boston. During my free time, I enjoy Netflix/TV shows, working out, hanging out with friends, and food (after spending 4 years in the US, I realized that Taiwan has one of the best food scenes in the world!). Two years ago, I heard about MSCE from my high school friend who is now a fourth-year medical student at Mackay Medical College. Last year, I met some great friends and truly enjoyed fellowshipping with my fellow TA’s and the wonderful faculty at MSCE! Looking forward to a week of fun and bonding with you all!
What is on your bucket list? One of the things on my bucket list is I want to travel and try the local cuisine from different regions in China.
Julianna Hsing (星家瑜)
Princeton University ’16 | Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

Hi everyone! My name is Julianna, and I’m super excited to be returning to MSCE for the second time since 2016. I currently work as a research coordinator at Stanford’s School of Medicine. In my free time, I love to go rock climbing, play music with friends, and draw illustrations of my favorite anime characters. I always say yes to boba or any delicious food, especially in Taiwan! Since graduating college, God has blessed me with an amazing community of family and friends, all whom I love spending time with. I’m really looking forward to meeting you all and making lots and lots of fun memories!
What is on your bucket list? It would be a DREAM to free climb Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. Not sure how feasible that bucket list item is, but hey, the sky’s the limit, right?! Another thing on my bucket list is to hike Mt. Fuji in Japan to see the sunrise and take in all of God’s creation!
University of California, Los Angeles ’19 | Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology
Hometown: San Jose, California
Hi! My name is Lucia, and I am a third year at UCLA studying Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology with an interest in medicine and public health. In my free time, I enjoy working as a music therapist at Ronald Reagan Hospital and a piano teacher at UCLA. In addition, I do research pertaining to health disparities and diseases afflicting the Asian American community. I also enjoy hanging out with my friends, and cooking and trying new foods!
Ever since I went on two mission trips to Taiwan 8 years ago, God has been pressing my heart and calling me to go back and serve again. I’m really excited to be serving with MSCE, not only to learn more about my home country and the field I will be entering into later on, but most importantly, bring glory to God through this service.
What is on your bucket list? Travel the world, adopt a cute little fur baby, and learn how to drive (haha Ooops I procrastinated a bit too much on that)
Luke Livingstone Lin (林家皓)
University of California, San Diego ’18 | General Biology
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Hi all! I’m thrilled to be returning to MSCE this Summer to serve and fellowship with staff, fellow TA’s, and Taiwanese medical students. I graduated from UCSD in the Spring of 2018 with a B.S. in General Biology, and by the grace of God, I will be starting grad school at the Southern California College of Optometry in August. Currently, I reside in the sunny city of San Diego, California. My hobbies include eating (obviously), Netflix, badminton, board games, and following the news.
What is on your bucket list? A couple things on my bucket list would be to eat A5 wagyu beef in Japan and to challenge my fear of heights through skydiving!
Monica Wen (文茗)
University of California, San Diego ’20 | General Biology
Hometown: Fremont, CA
Hi everyone! My name is Monica and I am a rising senior at UC San Diego where I am pursuing a major in General Biology with a Literature minor. When I’m not in school, you can find me journaling, grocery shopping, daydreaming, or checking out trendy restaurants with my friends. I’m always down for adventures and meeting new people, so I’m super excited to make some awesome memories with everyone this upcoming summer!
What is on your bucket list? The number one thing on my bucket list is to write a book. I love exploring and experiencing different cultures, so the thought of visiting the seven wonders of the world sounds awesome, too!
University of California, Santa Barbara ’19 | Biopsychology
Hometown: Fremont, CA
Hi everyone! My name is Rebecca, and I am currently a fourth year at sunny UC Santa Barbara, finishing up my B.S. in Biopsychology this year. After graduation, I will be taking some gap time to finish up a few labs and to work on my applications for occupational therapy school. In my free time, I like going to free food events held by the university and writing on my blog :)
This will be my first time volunteering with MSCE, but I am super excited to be working with all the Taiwanese students along with the other staff members and TA’s interested in the healthcare field. And although I do not get to visit often, I am excited to spend time in Taiwan, the home of my dad and so many other relatives. I hope to learn from you all as much as I hope to give!
What is on your bucket list? One day, I would really like to meet a quokka, which is my favorite animal from Australia. They’re very friendly and will take selfies with you! In the future, I’d also love to travel to some of the destinations where my favorite TV shows were shot (such as in Croatia or Ireland) to recreate pictures from scenes of the show :) I also want to learn more musical instruments! I played the piano for 11 years growing up, and the clarinet for 4. I think it’s so funny when people make YouTube musical covers with different instruments in one video. Right now I hope to learn to play the harmonica and kalimba at the same time.
